God and His Son

The bible is (among other things) about God and his Son. The entire work always clearly distinguishes between the two. The New Testament alone refers to God and Jesus distinctly at least 700 times. Let's have a quick survey:

God and His Son:

Deut 18:18 "YHWH your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him." [The "prophet" is Jesus, refer to Acts 3:22-26]

1 Samuel 2:35, YHWH: "I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed one always" [This is a prophecy of the future High Priest]

Psalm 2:2 "Why do the nations rage and the rulers plot a vain thing, against YHWH and his Messiah?" [Some translations read "anointed," which is the same as Christ and Messiah.]

Psalm 2:6 "As for me [YHWH], I have set my king [Messiah] on Zion."

Psalm 2:7 "YHWH said to me, 'You are my son, today I have begotten you.'"

Psalm 16 "I said to YHWH… you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your holy one see decay." (ref: Acts 2:31)

Psalm 22:1 "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" 

Psalm 22:8 "He trusts in YHWH; let him deliver him!"

Psalm 22:10 "From my mother's womb, you have been my God."

Psalm 118:17-18 "I will not die but live, and will proclaim what YHWH has done. YHWH has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death."

Psalm 118:26 "Blessed is he that comes in the name of YHWH!"

Isaiah 7:14 "Behold, I will give you a sign. The virgin will conceive and bear a son, and his name will be called Immanuel."

Isaiah 22:22 YHWH said: "I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open."

Isaiah 42:1 "Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations."

Isaiah 48:16 "And now the Lord YHWH has sent me, and his spirit."

Isaiah 49:1-3, 7 "YHWH called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name. He made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me a polished arrow in hi quiver he hid me away. And he said to me, "You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified." … "Because of YHWH who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen you."

Isaiah 50:5-6 "The Lord YHWH has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away. I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard."

Isaiah 52:13 "Behold, my servant shall act wisely; he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted."

Isaiah 53:6,10-11  "YHWH has laid upon him the iniquity of us all."

"Yet it was the will of YHWH to crush him… by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous."

Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of Lord YHWH is upon me, because YHWH has anointed me…"

Ezekiel 34:23-24  "And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he

shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their

shepherd. 24 And I YHWH will be their God, and my servant David a prince

among them; I YHWH have spoken it. "

Ezekiel 37:24-25 "And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. 25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever."

Daniel 7:13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him."

Zechariah 9:9 "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

Zechariah 12:8 "On that day YHWH will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of YHWH, going before them."

Matthew 3:16-17 " And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”"

Matthew 12:18 "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations."

Matthew 21:8–10 "The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

'Hosanna to the Son of David!'

'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'

'Hosanna in the highest heaven!'

"When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, 'Who is this?'"

Matthew 27:46 "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

"He will be called Son of the Most High."

Luke 2:40 "And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.

John 1:18 "No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him."

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son…"

John 3:34 "For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure."

John 5:44 + 8:54

How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? -  Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’

John 7:17 If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.

John 8:17-18 “I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other."

John 14:1

Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

John 16:27 "for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God."

John 20:17 "Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”"

Acts 2:33 "[Jesus] Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing."

Acts 3:13 "The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him."

Romans 15:6 "that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

1 Corinthians 1:9 "God is faithful, by whom you were called into fellowship with his son, Jesus Christ our Lord."

1 Cor 3:22-23 "whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God."

Ephesians 1:17 "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him…"

Ephesians 2:5 "But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ"

Colossians 1:3 "We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you…"

Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

1 Thessalonians 1:3 "…remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ."

1 Thessalonians 3:11 "Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you…"

1 Thessalonians 3:13 "…so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints."

2 Thessalonians 2:16 "Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace…"

1 Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus"

Hebrews 1:5

For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”?

Hebrews 1:6 "when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.”"

Hebrews 2:9 "But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone."

Hebrews 2:17 "Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God."

James 1:27 "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this…"

1 Peter 2:4-6 "As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

1 Peter 1:2 "according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you."

1 Peter 1:3 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…"

1 Peter 1:20 "[Jesus,] Who truly was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you."

1 Peter 2:23 "when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously."

1 John 5:1 "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him."

1 John 5:5 "Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"

Jude 1:25 "to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen."

Revelation 1:5-6 "To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."

Revelation 3:2 ‘Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God.'

Revelation 3:12  ‘He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.'

 Conclusion:

There is one God, the Father, YHWH, and one Lord, our Messiah Jesus. This Jesus was sent by the One God, obeys him, submits to his will, and one day will turn over the kingdom back to the Father God. No bible author is confused about this; all clearly distinguish between God and Jesus.
